Bake to End Hunger: The Reason Behind the Event

by Lizzie Martinez

Chefs think about food all day, every day–as they cook scrumptious treats, eat, share their concoctions. So, it’s no surprise that for many in the culinary industry, the issue of hunger in Oregon is one that is close to their hearts.

“I feel that it is our responsibility as humans to help others in need,” said Jessica Howard at Raven and Rose. “With the amount of resources available, no person in Oregon should ever go hungry.”

That is one of the reasons Raven and Rose is excited to participate in Bake to End Hunger food tasting event.

“Helping end hunger starts a very local level, and hopefully resonates throughout the world,” said Howard.

Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon hosts the Bake to End Hunger event to raise funds for critical anti-hunger programs and advocacy, and also to raise awareness about the issue of hunger.

While food is bountiful in our state, for too many Oregonians, food is not just a source of nourishment but a source of worry about how to afford it. Roughly 1 in 7 of our fellow community members struggles to put food on the table on a regular basis. We work with partners across the state to help connect people, from kids and families to seniors to people living with disabilities, to healthy food in their communities.

Bake to End Hunger brings together the culinary industry to unite around this issue, and to raise funds for Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon by celebrating food.

Thank you to each and every one of our guest chefs and restaurants participating in this event. We are grateful for your commitment to ending hunger!
