We’re so happy to see Summer EBT rolling into its second year in Oregon! Last week, 341,504 children received their 2025 Summer EBT benefits to make sure they have food support during summer months, when school is out and child hunger spikes.
For families facing food insecurity, summer has long marked a time when kids no longer have easy access to breakfast and lunch at school. Many parents and caregivers have to come up with at least 10 additional meals per week, per child.
Summer EBT addresses that summer hunger gap and ensures that eligible families are able to access nourishing food over the summer months. Healthy eating throughout the summer helps students learn and play, and supports physical, behavioral and social health.
“Community leaders in Oregon spent ten years piloting, shaping and winning a permanent, nationwide Summer EBT program,” said David Wieland, Policy Advocate at Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. “Seeing the program enter its second year is a great reminder that lasting change takes persistence. This program is already making a real difference in the lives of Oregon’s kids.”
