Mini-grants to Start Breakfast in the Classroom/Grab and Go!

Thanks to a grant from Pizza Schmizza, Oregon Hunger Relief Task Force (OHRTF) announces the availability of small grants to enable schools to implement new Breakfast in the Classroom or Grab and Go Breakfast programs.

Schools or school districts may request up to $500 per school to help with eligible start-up costs necessary to convert their breakfast program to one of the two models listed above. Eligible costs include equipment purchases such as cooling or warming units, serving carts, etc. as well outreach to parents and teachers about the new program.

For more information on the Breakfast in the Classroom model, see our school breakfast brochure (pdf).

Grantees must have a plan in place to implement the program during the 2006-07 school year. A total of $2,000 is available for these grants. Applications will be reviewed and funding decisions made by OHRTF staff, working with representatives from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).

Where needed, schools receiving grants will be able to obtain additional staff technical assistance from OHRTF and ODE with their implementation plan.

To apply, complete the interest form (pdf) and return to OHRTF as soon as possible. Decisions will be announced, starting this summer and ending when the funds are fully committed.
