Why We Do Outreach

Many federally-funded child nutrition programs go underutilized because parents, teachers, etc. are unaware of their existence. Some programs struggle to maintain adequate staffing and operating funds.

What We Do

We work with community partners, including the Oregon Department of Education, to publicize and expand participation in these nutrition programs. We currently focus on two underutilized programs:

The After-School Meal and Snack Program

The Summer Food Service Program

Good Nutrition Makes a Difference

Good child nutrition can make a huge emotional, physical, and mental difference through childhood and into adulthood. Several studies have shown how the adverse effects of hunger on children (including stunted growth and brain development and delayed motor-skills development) can be permanent and largely irreversible. Moreover, there is extensive research that shows the link between adequate nutrition and school success.
